Welcome

This site is especially for those international students who are interested in studying Psychology at the Institute of Psychology, part of the Erasmus University of Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

The Institute was established in September 2001. Currently it has about 1000 students and 100 employees. The curriculum is selected over 5 times by students as the best academic psychology program of the Netherlands. A independent guide  that assesses and compares the quality of educational programmes labeled the curriculum in 2013 as a "Top Rated Programme" (read more). In 2006 the Institute was rated as the best psychology program in the Netherlands by an independent committee.

The Institute of Psychology curriculum aims at preparing students for professional careers in an academic and a practical sense. The curriculum offers main subjects in the field of:
- Clinical Psychology

- Clinical Child & Youth Psychology

- Industrial and Organizational Psychology (including social psychology)

- Educational and Developmental Psychology

- Brain and Cognition

During the first two years (Ba1 and Ba2) of the Bachelor program students become familiar with all the important perspectives within general psychology. In the third year (Ba3) students’ focus lies on one of the four fields mentioned above.

As an exchange student you are invited to follow courses in Ba3 and some courses in Ba2. Courses conducted in English are offered from September till the end of May. More detailed information on the courses can be found after selecting the option 'Courses' in the menu on the left.

The curriculum is characterized by an educational system referred to as ‘Problem-Based Learning (PBL)’. In PBL, students have an active role and they themselves are to a large degree responsible for their own learning process.

Please read the information given on PBL carefully and decide beforehand whether this kind of educational system is suitable for you.
